At the General Meeting of the Wellington VHF Group, Peter ZL2VK brought up the subject of the Softrock Radio Kits being made available in the USA. Heres some info from Peter:
The VHF Group is preparing to obtain a number of the SoftRock kits as available from Tony, KB9YIG, for members as a bulk purchase. Here is your chance to make an inexpensive entrance into an exciting new phase of amateur radio.
There will be two options available. One is the receive only version, the SoftRock V6.2 Lite and the SoftRock V6.2 Lite RxTx. The former is a receive only unit and the latter is a CW/SSB/AM 1 watt exciter/transceiver. On their own, they provide a surprisingly high performance receiver and companion QRP transmitter.
The SoftRock can be used at the IF frequency of your existing rig to give a large measure of DSP ability and the kit can be ordered to suit your I.F. (Weak signal microwave modes?)
Further information on kit frequencies and options is available at Softrockradio.org. A very active and supportive group exists at Yahoogroups.
Pricing about $US10 and $US30 respectively in NZ$ equivalent. By ordering through the VHF Group, the freight costs to NZ are minimised.
