Doug Gorman Memorial Frequency Measuring Contest 2012 – Results

The results of the NZART Doug Gorman Memorial Frequency Measuring Contest 2012 are presented below. These results are provisional and have been checked carefully but if you think an error has crept in please let NZART HQ know as soon as possible.

Propagation conditions this year did not favour precise measurement, but congratulations to winner Mike ZL4OL who did a brilliant job using off-the-air calibration.

The format of the results is Branch (if noted in contest entry) Name Call Average (Hz) Standard Deviation (Hz) Equipment and signals (if noted):

Thank you to all competitors and a particular welcome to the many first timers this year.

Max ZL4VV noted that a CME (coronal mass ejection) event the day before the contest from a filament burst on the sun resulted in a geomagnetic storm level reaching the G2 (moderate) on Monday resulting in the difficult propagation experienced during the contest. As with last year, winner Mike ZL4OL produced an exceptional result. Mike improved his last year’s winning 0.07 Hz avg 0.09 Hz std dev result to an unprecedented 0.0152 Hz 0.009985 Hz, a more precise average with a tighter spread. Congratulations also to Papakura Branch 65 for their continuing high level of participation.

You may note the rather poor camera shots of the freqeuncy counter at ZL4JY in the previous results posting. I had a camera failure after the first two transmissions and had to finish recording with a poorer tablet camera.

John ZL4JY
