This from Peter ZL2VK:
The Belmont "shack" has stood the ravages of time by unfortunately the door has suffered with considerable rust that makes it extremely difficult to open and close. The door frame has become quite distorted as a result of the corrosion.

A new heavy steel galvanised door and frame has been fabricated and is ready for fitting. Unfortunately the shack has taken a distinct "lean" resulting from earlier excavations when the power cable was installed. This lean must be corrected before the door and frame is fitted otherwise we will have continued difficulty in opening and closing the new door.
On Saturday, 19th September, 2009, weather permitting, it is proposed to have a large working bee at Belmont to dig out beside the shack and repack its foundations so that it is again level and true. The old door and its frame will then be removed and the new one fitted. Some work will also be done by the
antenna specialists on the tower.
Onsite starting time will be about 9.30am meaning an early start to get there. It is necessary to limit the number of vehicles on the access track which is still quite fragile and readily damaged. Some track transport will be available from the road end and being a full day, one should bring lunch and drinks.
With a good number of helpers, the workload can be shared and the work can be easily completed. We need to look after our repeater investment and volunteers should contact Peter ZL2VK preferably email (sheldad {at} iinet.net.au) or (04)232-8608.
